Churchill Living
Westbury-on-Trym
Churchill Living is bringing forward proposals for a new retirement living development at Carlton Court, Westbury Court Road in Westbury-on-Trym.
Welcome
The site is in a highly sustainable location in the heart of Westbury-on-Trym, a short walk from everyday town centre facilities, and within the residential setting of Westbury Court Road.
The redevelopment will therefore provide specialist homes on a brownfield site in a highly sustainable location, whilst retaining parking for users of the Co-op.
Churchill’s emerging vision for the site includes:
- A high-quality independent retirement living community of approximately 31 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, with private car parking, as well as covered mobility scooter parking.
- A significant improvement to the street scene along Westbury Court Road, including the retention of the large sycamore tree on the site boundary and provision of new landscaping.
- Demolition of some of the units to the rear of Carlton Court.
- A reconfigured service area and car park for the Co-Op.
- Retention of pedestrian routes through the car park to the Carlton Court shopping Centre and into Westbury-on-Trym, including a wheelchair accessible route.
- The reconfigured service area for the Co-op, public car parking and pedestrian routes through to Carlton Court would be provided in advance of the new Churchill Lodge.
As well as greatly improving the street scene in this part of Westbury Court Road, the proposals would also make a significant contribution locally in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits.

Benefits
Regenerating the area
The proposals would provide specialist homes on a brownfield site in a highly sustainable location.
Supporting local businesses
The site is close to shops and essential services in Westbury-on-Trym reducing the need to travel and delivering a significant uplift in expenditure at local shops.
Meeting the needs of older people
Moving to a Churchill community allows residents to maintain independence and enjoy an active, low-maintenance lifestyle in a supportive, age-friendly environment.
Reducing demand on the health services
Retirement communities reduce the risk of health challenges by helping to reduce loneliness as well as improving safety and security.
Freeing up homes
Providing homes at the top of the housing ladder helps release properties back onto the market for local families and, in turn, homes for first-time buyers.

Manns Lodge (Cranleigh)
The location of my new apartment couldn’t be better, we’re right next to the High Street and everything we need is on our doorstep. I lived a bit further out before, and whilst I can still drive at the moment it’s nice to know that I won’t have to rely on the car in future.

Invicta Lodge (Westwood Cross)
I previously lived in a three-bed semi-detached house just 500 yards away from Invicta Lodge. Moving here is the best thing I ever did, my apartment is just right and it’s nice to have a bit of company around me as well as safety and security.
